Arts council calls on the community
The Northwestern Randolph County Arts Council (NWRCAC) is holding its first membership drive. The mission of the organization is "to provide exhibition outlets for artists, provide educational opportunities for those interested in the arts, foster appreciation of fine arts in the area, and collaborate with schools, businesses and other organizations through the arts."
NWRCAC has several exciting events already planned for this year including "Concert on the Lawn" programs, a day trip to the Mint Museum of Art in Charlotte and a two-day Art Gallery for local artists. Mark you calendars on March 15 for the fabulous 2008 "Dinner, Dancing and the Arts" evening. Long range projects include the vision of an arts building/civic center in the area.
Become a member or make a donation. There are corporate and individual/family membership options. Whatever you choose, you are encouraged to "get involved with the arts in northwestern Randolph County." For more information on the council and its events, go to www.nwrcac.org.
The Northwestern Randolph County Arts Council is bringing arts to the community and the community to the arts!

Watani Grassland Reserve Opens in Spring '08
"C'sar, a bull elephant at the North Carolina Zoo, feels his way around the new $8.5 million exhibit expansion for the first time (in late December 2007) after keepers began to allow elephants into the new southern exhibit area to acclimate them to their new surroundings. The elephant exhibit, part of the park's new Watani Grassland Reserve, will officially open in the spring. (NC Zoo photo by Tom Gillespie)
