Archdale's Bouldin House Bed & Breakfast

By Donna Roach

The slow click of the signal light shuts off as the traveler pulls up the graveled drive to the top of the hill. Several blocks away busy streets lined with rows of franchised restaurants and motels are a distant memory. There is already a sense of being home on the approach to Bouldin House Bed & Breakfast.

A stone walk leads the way to the large porch with its impressive front door and beveled glass. The foyer is large and inviting. A center stairway leads directly up to the second floor. On the left of the foyer is a common area with a cozy and comfortable seating arrangement. Owner Linda Cook explains that guests are offered hot tea in the winter and cold tea in the summer along with light refreshments as they relax there in the afternoon. Many come for two or three days with a set agenda - shopping for furniture in High Point.

Underneath the traveler's feet are beautiful wood floors and lovely area rugs. Handsome wood paneling adds to the warmth and elegance of the structure. "It is a true craftsman style," said Cook. She explained it was the renovation done by previous owners that helped her decide to purchase Bouldin House in 2005. "The quality of renovation was the best work of any for sale."

Although many guests are from out of state, Cook's philosophy is that a bed and breakfast can be a great weekend retreat from home. "People think if they take a day or two from work they will relax," but she contends they never do because there are always projects around the house or chores that are waiting to be done. Scheduling time at a close-by bed and breakfast is more relaxing. "It's a great way for time-starved people to get away for a mini-vacation," said Cook.

The dining room with an oak mantel easily seats six. An hour before breakfast, early morning coffee or tea is set-up on the sideboard. In the warmer seasons, seating capacity expands to the large porch and grounds area. That flexibility allows Bouldin House to become the perfect place for special dinners for large groups or small.

At Bouldin House, brides-to-be can plan the perfect wedding. The stone patio with gazebo and gardens creates a beautiful backdrop for a ceremony. Garden Wedding options include wedding and reception, wedding ceremony only or reception only. A special dressing area is provided for the bride and the use of the grounds is available for pre-wedding photographs. These are just the beginning of various options and ideas available including options for guest accommodations and bridal luncheons.

The Bouldin House Bed & Breakfast is located at 4332 Archdale Road in Archdale, NC.
